Sabian D. Chatman

MOUNT VERNON — A Columbus man believed to be a member of a Crips-affiliated gang is in custody after a Thursday drug raid at a Mount Vernon residence.

Sabian D. Chatman, 35, is in custody at the Knox County Jail on a charge of trafficking in heroin, according to the jail’s website, following the execution of a search warrant at an 800 block Mulberry Street residence. Chatman is being held without bond.

According to Knox County Sheriff David Shaffer, $2,500 in cash and 50 grams of “suspected” heroin were seized in Thursday’s raid.

The affidavit for a search warrant by Knox County Sheriff’s Detective Lt. Craig Feeney states, Chatman and another individual identified as “B” were believed to be bringing heroin into Mount Vernon “a few ounces” at a time, set up shop for about a week, then return to Columbus. Chatman’s street name in the affidavit is given as “Dot.”
