ZANESVILLE — Marlene A. Phillis Thornberry, 81, of Zanesville, died at 3:01 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 15, 2016, at Zanesville Heath and Rehabilitation Center, Zanesville. She was born May 28, 1935, daughter of the late Clarence and Edna Dover German.

She is survived by the father of her children, Maynard Phillis of Newark; a daughter, Denise Salmons, of Bladensburg; three sons, Dale (Nancy) Phillis of Zanesville, David (Mary) Phillis of Zanesville, and Darren Phillis of Bladensburg; 14 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Carlos Allen of Zanesville.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Thornberry; siblings, Violet Leitner, James German, Madaline Rubin, Helen Thornton, Richard German, Robert German, Donald German, and Marion German; and a grandson, Michael Phillis.

Friends and family may call from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 17, at the Bolin-Dierkes Funeral Home, 1271 Blue Ave., Zanesville, where funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. with Pastor Dean Cole and Pastor Dave Pennington officiating. A dignified cremation will take place and she will be laid to rest at Zanesville Memorial Park, Zanesville, at a later date.
