MOUNT VERNON — Various department head meetings were on tap Thursday with the Knox County Board of Commissioners as they heard updates from the water/wastewater, animal control, and soil and water conservation offices.

Knox County Animal Control

The dog population at the Animal Shelter continues to stay low, according to Knox County Dog Warden John Carhart. A total of 40 dogs left the shelter in November. Twenty of these were adoptions with 12 returned to their owner, five transferred to a rescue and three were euthanized. Two of these were for aged/ailing, while the other was for showing aggression toward humans.
