MOUNT VERNON — The Mount Vernon school board on Monday took the first step toward placing a renewal levy on the May ballot.

On Tuesday, Treasurer Judy Forney said the board wants to combine two existing operating levies into one renewal. The first was passed in November 2011 and the second in May 2013. Forney said the exact combined millage amount will be determined by Knox County Auditor Jonette Curry and the board will use that information at its January meeting to create the next resolution.
