DANVILLE — Members of the Dan Emmett Kennel Club put together theme baskets to be raffled each year at their Conformation, Obedience and Lure Coursing event at the Marion County Fairgrounds. The money from the raffle is then set aside and members discuss and pick which dog related cause to donate.
Chief Dan Weckesser of the Danville Police Department has done a superb job in obtaining K9’s for Danville and for their use throughout Knox County. He is passionate about the K9 unit and the dogs are great ambassadors for the Danville Police Department as well as awesome protectors. The club felt the purchase of kevlar vests for the K9 unit would ensure the dog’s safety while out on calls. The club is honored to provide vests to Chief Weckesser.
The Dan Emmett Kennel Club of Mount Vernon was recognized in 1956 by the American Kennel Club. It is a small club but has been active in donating to various groups, from the Knox County Humane Society, K9 program (dog housing, obedience lessons), Knox County 4-H, dogs (money for agility equipment), The Public Library of Mount Vernon and Knox County (books and CDs), Centerburg Library (books), Centerburg Elementary School (books), Morrow County K9 unit (housing and care), mastiff therapy training and the AKC Pet Disaster Relief trailer.
