A little bit of fun and games to go along with lending a helping a hand for a good cause was on tap Saturday afternoon during the 2016 Knox County Food For the Hungry drive.
A highlight of the afternoon at the Food for the Hungry Drive Saturday was the presentation of the 2016 Stephen Zelkowitz Memorial Award.
Saturday’s annual Food for the Hungry drive didn’t just meet its goal of $190,000, it smashed it. As of 5 p.m. Saturday, the total had reached $220,554.69.
“I don’t know what to say,” said Chair Lisa Mazzari. “This is a great thing happening in Knox County. Great people live in Knox County.”
The food donation totals were lagging a bit. As of 5 p.m. Saturday, only a little over 23 truckloads of food had been tallied, but more was due to come from several collection sites.
“It’s OK,” Mazzari said, “Interchurch and The Salvation Army can buy from the Mid-Ohio Food Bank and make dollars stretch farther that way.”
One big food donation came in from Grace Community Church, which brought in a trailer-load of food.
