MOUNT VERNON — Elinor H. Vernon, 88, of Mount Vernon, passed away Friday, Dec. 9, 2016, at her home.

She was born March 5, 1928, in Mount Vernon, to the late Leslie and Mary (Zeisloft) Hampshire. Elinor was employed as a realtor for Century 21 and later for Vernon Realty. She was also employed at Mount Vernon City Schools. Elinor was a member of the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), was past Matron of the Knox Chapter 236 Order of Eastern Star, and was a 75 year member of the Morgan Grange.

She is survived by her daughter, Marilyn Vernon; two sons, Ron Vernon, Bill (Denise) Vernon; four grandchildren, Ryan Vernon, Peter Vernon, Jocelyn Vernon, Edith Vernon; and seven great-grandchildren, Brayden Vernon, Jayden Vernon, Kayleigh Vernon, Raylynn Vernon, Jaycob Vernon, Miles Vernon and Jayden Vernon.

In addition to her parents, Elinor was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Vernon, and her brother, Sherman Hampshire.
Friends may call Tuesday, from 4-6 p.m., at the Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home where an Ohio Eastern Star service will begin at 4 p.m. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, beginning at 1 p.m., with Rev. Marvin Haught officiating. Burial will follow in Bell Cemetery.
