MOUNT VERNON — Serendipity is being in the right place at the right time, and that was the case when officials from the Mount Vernon City School District attended the Mount Vernon Academy auction last year.

Originally on the lookout at the auction for good buys on tables and desks, they just happened to be passing by when the academy coach bus went up for sale.

Bidding was not very fierce, Superintendent Bill Seder said, and the school district purchased the bus for $1,400 with the intention of turning into an extracurricular bus. He said it could be used for many things, such as Academic Challenge trips, taking the debate team to matches or the transporting students to the ski slopes.
