MOUNT VERNON — Mayor Richard Mavis said he agrees with Board of Zoning Appeals Chair Chris Menapace that it is probably time to take a look at the city’s zoning code as it relates to business signs, especially for new businesses.

“I think a sign variance was the first issue that came before the BZA when I became mayor,” he said. (Mavis was first elected in 1991).

Menapace suggested at Wednesday’s BZA meeting that it take a look back at the issues brought before the board in the last year or so and prepare a report for City Council. He said it seems like signs are the most common issue brought to the board.
