FREDERICKTOWN — Edward D. Blackburn, M.D., 75, of Fredericktown, died Thursday, Dec. 8, 2016, at his home surrounded by his family. He was born July 6, 1941, in Mount Vernon, the son of John Boyd “Si” and Anna Eileen (Mason) Blackburn.

Eddie earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in 1967 from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. In 1969, he earned his Masters of Science degree and in 1973 Eddie attained his Ph.D. and M.D. from the Ohio State University. Upon graduation, he served his residency at Grant Hospital and Ohio State University Hospitals.

Eddie served as a doctor for numerous hospitals, including Ohio State University Hospitals, Grant Hospital, Knox Community Hospital, Mount Vernon Developmental Center and his own private practice, the Village Clinic, in Fredericktown. He also served as the Knox County Coroner from 1977 to 1992. Through the years, Eddie took great pride in the care of his patients.

Professional organizations that he belonged to include the American Epilepsy Society, American Academy of Family Physicians, Society of Teachers of Family Medicine, American Medical Association, Ohio State Medical Association, Ohio State Coroner’s Association and American College of Forensic Examiners.

Eddie was recognized for numerous awards, including: Fellowship in Epilepsy, Bowman Gray School of Medicine, Hartford Fellow, Fellow American College of Angiology, Fellow of the American College of Forensic Examiners and Man of the Year in Knox County for 1976. He currently served on the Knox County Senior Citizens Advisory Board, Muir Committee with the State of Ohio MR/DD, Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee for the State of Ohio, Knox Community Hospital Explorer Scout Group where he served as Co-Director and Knox Community Hospital Executive Committee. Eddie previously served as the Chief of Staff and President of Knox Community Hospital.

Eddie is survived by his son, Christopher Blackburn of Fredericktown; a daughter, Alison (Nathan) Misencik of Parrish, Fla.; two grandchildren, Brady Misencik and Bailey Misencik; and former wife, Diane Blackburn.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Friends may call from noon to 2 p.m. Friday at Fredericktown First Presbyterian Church, 17 S. Main St., Fredericktown, where a Masonic service will begin at 2 p.m. A Celebration of Life service will follow. The family will observe a private burial in Forest Cemetery in Fredericktown. The Snyder Funeral Home of Fredericktown is honored to serve the family of Dr. Eddie.
