MOUNT VERNON — Jail time for some offenders may not be served until six to eight weeks after sentencing.

Mount Vernon Municipal Court Judge John Thatcher, in sentencing two DUI offenders Wednesday, told them their jail time will likely be served in mid-to-late January, due to limited availability of beds at the Knox County Jail.

The jail population has been staying at or near capacity for the last few months of the year. Rated for 100 inmates, population numbers were in the high 90s, and up to 100, in October.
