FREDERICKTOWN — The Fredericktown community was saddened Thursday by the news of the death of former family physician Dr. Edward Blackburn.

Dr. Blackburn, 75, served the Fredericktown area for 43 years, was on the staff at Knox Community Hospital, was former Knox County Coroner and was medical director at Mount Vernon Developmental Center from 1991 to 2000.

News publisher Kay Culbertson remembers Dr. Blackburn as a “really good diagnostician. He knew his medicine well,” she said. Culbertson and her grandchildren were patients of Dr. Blackburn. And as a person, “He was fun, very friendly and always had a smile on his face.”

Fredericktown Mayor Jerry Day has many years of memories of Dr. Blackburn as he was hired to the local police force by his father, Sy Blackburn.
