FREDERICKTOWN — Lacking the answer to the consequences of a “no” vote, Fredericktown Council decided Monday to table a vote on a contract for prosecutorial services with the Mount Vernon City Law Director.

Council decided to table the contract on a motion by council member James Hobson. Hobson said City Law Director Rob Broeren never directly gave an answer to what would happen if council does not approve the contract.

“It’d be nice to know if (Broeren is) going to take a position on that. … Are we being bullied or not,” Hobson said.

Specifically, Hobson said he wanted to know if Broeren would tell the village he will not prosecute criminal and traffic cases from Fredericktown that come up in municipal court, unless Fredericktown agrees to the contract.
