FREDERICKTOWN — Fredericktown’s first year as a varsity bowling team was, in almost every way, a rousing success.

Almost.

An ineligible player forced the boys team to drop all 14 of its victories last year. It also officially wiped out the team’s appearance at districts. Still, it was 14 victories. And they did bowl at districts.

“We did surprise a lot of people,” said Fredericktown bowling coach Chuck Young. “These kids play hard, and they play to win.”

If the boys’ success was a surprise to the rest of the Mid-Ohio Athletic Conference, the girls’ success had to be a total shock. The Fredericktown girls team went 10-0 in conference play, 17-2 overall, and also earned a spot at districts.
Both teams fell short of a state bid. But, with a year under their belts, there’s another chance.
