MOUNT VERNON — Some people are noticing a few more big bucks are getting bagged this year compared to other years. Nobody is prepared to say whether it is the warmer temperatures that remained comfortably in the 50s, or any, other reason.

“There’s been quite a few really good sized bucks killed this year,” said Whitney Johnson at Danville Outdoors. “We don’t get to see as many as we used to, because hunters check their deer in over the phone a lot more, now. I’d say way more than half check them in online and over the phone. Mostly people bring them in to show them off, if they have big ones. I’ve seen a dozen or so this year that are more than 10 points That’s a little unusual. They seem to be killing some pretty big deer this year.”

Linda Oiler, owner of Oiler’s Meat Processing in Utica for 43 years, has processed a number of big bucks, this year. Oiler also notices how online deer checking is making a difference and expressed concerns.
