MOUNT VERNON — Several student scientists from the Knox County area have qualified to participate in the state science fair on Saturday and to vie for a piece of the $4 million in awards and scholarships being offered.

Achal Fernando-Peiris, a junior at Mount Vernon High School, will present his project on fabricating an artificial nose using mesoporous crystals.
