MOUNT VERNON — Details of a five-month multi-agency investigation which led to 404 counts in 12 indictments, were released Tuesday morning in a press conference hosted at the Knox County Sheriff’s Office.
Indictments ranged from aggravated trafficking in drugs to engaging in a pattern of corrupt activity.
Of the 12 people indicted, 11 served as “travelers” driving to Florida to obtain prescriptions that were filled in pharmacies from seven states. The pills were then given to Terry Jacobs, who according to Lt. Gary Rohler, Knox County Sheriff’s Office, served as the organizer and one of the two funding agents of the crime ring. The trips were taken over the course of two years.
The group of travelers was responsible for obtaining over 100,000 pills valued at over $1.9 million. Among the pills prescribed were Alprazalam (Xanax), hydrocodone (Vicodin), methadone, Roxicet (Oxycotin), and oxycodone.
Assisting in the investigation were the Ohio Attorney General’s Office Division of Organized Crime, Florida Department of Law Enforcement, Central Ohio Drug Enforcement Task Force, Columbus Division of Police, Franklin County Sheriff’s Office and the Knox County Prosecutor’s Office.
Officials could not comment on whether or not charges would be forthcoming for those issuing the prescriptions.
