MOUNT VERNON — Mount Vernon Police took Jacob Lyons, 35, Fredericktown, into custody late Tuesday evening after Lyons’ car hit the Civil War monument on Public Square before continuing onto North Main Street.
He was charged with OVI, driving under suspension, leaving the scene of an accident, failure to control and failure to comply with a lawful order.
According to the Mount Vernon Police Department report, a witness reported a black vehicle heading northbound on South Main Street crashed into the monument on Public Square and continued on North Main Street.
