MOUNT VERNON — A two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Wooster and Sychar roads on Monday claimed the life of Kathy Reed, 63, Fredericktown.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol reported that at 12:04 p.m., Reed was driving a 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer westbound on Sychar Road when she pulled into the intersection of Wooster Road and was struck by a northbound tractor-trailer driven by Frank Thompson Jr., 42, Grove City.

Reed was not wearing her seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle. She was transported to Knox Community Hospital by the Mount Vernon Fire Department where she was transferred to Grant Medical Center by Medflight.
Thompson was wearing his seatbelt and was not injured. Reed was reported to have passed away at 5:35 this morning.

Assisting OSHP with the crash and traffic control were the Mount Vernon Police Department and the Knox County Sheriff’s Office. The crash remains under investigation.

The intersection of Wooster and Sychar roads was closed to traffic for more than four hours.
