MOUNT VERNON — A 45-year-old woman was found safe this morning after being reported missing just before 3:30 a.m.

The Knox County Sheriff’s Office responded to the call of a missing woman on Ransom Road who suffers from mental health issues.

According to the 911 call, the woman’s family said they had talked with neighbors who believed there was a prowler lurking around their vehicles. Neighbors chased off the prowler toward Fairview Road.

The woman’s family said they drove around the neighborhood calling the woman’s name but were unable to locate her.

The sheriff’s office requested a helicopter and infrared equipment from the Ohio State Highway Patrol to help located the woman. According to Sheriff David Shaffer, the aviation unit spotted the victim and directed officers to her location. She was found at 5:15 a.m. in a wooded area.

Central Ohio Joint Fire District told the News the woman was transported to Knox Community Hospital.
