MOUNT VERNON — Seven local schools gathered at Pat Catans on Saturday morning for the store’s annual Iron Crafter competition. Students from Centerburg High School, Clear Fork High School, two teams from Danville High School, East Knox High School, Fredericktown High School, Mount Vernon High School and St. Vincent de Paul Middle School came out to compete. 2014’s theme was superheroes, as each group received several different items to make the most creative piece representing or featuring the theme of superheroes. The secret “ingredient” for use in this year’s competition was chameleon duck tape, which changed color with touch. The prize for the best project was $100, and all items in each team’s box were kept by the schools.
