GREENSBORO, N.C. — A pair of local swimmers have finished their final tuneups as they prepare themselves for the last big meet of the season.

Victor Lowe, a senior at Mount Vernon High School, and Robert Williams, a junior, will take part in the 2014 YMCA National Swimming Championships, slated to run today through Friday. The duo will combine to race in five events against competition from around the country.

Williams gained a berth in three events: The 200-yard breaststroke, the 50 freestyle and the 100 breaststroke. Lowe qualified in the 50- and 100-yard freestyles. Both had to increase their workouts, which they had tapered as the high school season wound down. For the last few weeks, however, they have been tapering again.
