MOUNT VERNON — It wasn’t all fireworks, all the time, but the Mount Vernon Yellow Jackets chalked up a win on Opening Day at the Mount Vernon baseball diamond.

Nick Hoar hit a two-RBI double — after leaving the mound with an apparent elbow injury — and the Jackets defeated Mansfield Madison, 5-2, in Rob Gross’ debut as Mount Vernon coach.
