MOUNT VERNON — Propane customers felt the crunch of an excessively cold winter. For some, the cost of the heating fuel was more than expected, and in some cases, more than the customer was quoted.

One local consumer told the News, after being quoted a price of $1.49 per gallon, deliveries were made at costs of $2.49 and $3.97 per gallon.
