MOUNT VERNON — Winter sports may have passed, but there continues to be a buzz inside The Hive. The extended winter has driven the Mount Vernon Yellow Jackets softball players into their own gym to practice on the hardwood.

Frigid temperatures and a dusting of snow canceled Tuesday’s scrimmage against Whitehall, stripping Mount Vernon hitters of another opportunity to face live pitching.
