MOUNT VERNON — Although the County Risk Sharing Authority, Knox County’s insurance carrier, has recommended the animal shelter volunteer program be suspended for a year, the Knox County Board of Commissioners wants the program back up and running as soon as possible.

“The sooner the better,” commissioner Roger Reed told the News on Thursday. “It’s important to get the dogs adopted and the volunteers are vital in socializing the dogs. Our adoption rates are what they are because of volunteers.”
