MOUNT VERNON — A controlled heroin buy by Knox County deputies resulted in a traffic stop and arrest in Mount Vernon Thursday afternoon.

Sheriff’s Capt. Jay Sheffer said deputies staged a controlled buy outside the city, then followed the suspects after they drove away. As they were followed, the suspects threw what appeared to be a handgun out of the vehicle, and the deputies radioed for marked cruisers from the city police department to stop the suspects in town, which was done on West High Street.
