MOUNT VERNON — The Mount Vernon Police Department and Mount Vernon Fire Department responded to a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of East High and Gay streets at 9:22 p.m. Monday.

MVFD Chief Chad Christopher told the News that the driver and front-seat passenger of an SUV were both trapped and extracted from their vehicle. They were taken to Knox Community Hospital where they were transported to Columbus hospitals by MedFlight and Air Evac.

The driver and passenger of a pickup truck were both out of their vehicle and appeared uninjured when rescue personnel arrived.

Capt. George Hartz, acting MVPD chief, said the report was not finished and the accident remains under investigation.
