HOWARD — The Howard Softball League is growing too fast for its surroundings.

Kevin Patrick is trying to help.

The president of the group is in the process of adding three more fields for the kids to use. It’s a slow process, but it’s coming along.

“It’s all for the kids. They need this,” said Patrick. “We’re really involved with the kids. They need this place to go.”

Right now, the softball league uses one field. That’s for all teams 6U through 16U, as well as seventh grade and eighth grade teams. As a result, time to practice is limited, and the field gets worn down fast.

The three new fields will be close to the current field on Pipesville Road — literally past the outfield. The new area was donated by the county commissioners. It’s being rented for one dollar. That transaction happened early in 2013.
