FREDERICKTOWN — Catching up with area BMX cyclist Ivan Bissett isn’t always easy.
The Fredericktown native is a young 22-year-old on the go, but even he was a little out of breath after an afternoon of turning some gravity-defying stunts on two wheels.
“It’s really a comfort thing,” said Bissett, who has been riding for 7 1/2 years. “It starts off slow and you don’t feel like you’re learning anything, but then it gets to the point where you are suddenly learning things faster. Once you are comfortable on your bike, you can make things happen.”
Practice has been hard to come by for Bissett. With the closure of the indoor bike park in Columbus, the long, cold winter has forced him to hone his skills at parks in Cleveland. Recently, Bissett competed at one of those parks — with little success.
