MOUNT VERNON — Mount Vernon City Council will be asked to approve an easement for the new hotel in the coming weeks to allow for an extended portico at the hotel’s main entrance.

The original easement, granted in 1971, will become void once the existing hotel is demolished in the coming weeks. It covered a six-foot area out into Public Square covering the entire northern section of the building.

The proposed easement will provide a covered area for hotel guests to drop off luggage or passengers.

“The new hotel will be basically where the old hotel was, so that will be six foot,” said Glass. “The portico will be a portion of a new easement.”
