MOUNT VERNON — In his third try at the OHSAA State Wrestling Championships, Matthew Lybarger finally was recognized as one of the best wrestlers in Ohio by landing a spot on the podium.

He has also been recognized as our Mount Vernon News All-Area Wrestler of the Year.

Lybarger finished fifth in the 182-pound weight class in the Division I tournament last week. The Mount Vernon senior defeated Olentangy’s Nate Hall, 6-2, in his final match as a high schooler. To get there, Lybarger won eight straight matches to claim sectional and district championships.
