MOUNT VERNON — The second season for the Mount Vernon Yellow Jackets began not with a cry of revelry, but with a whimper.

The girls basketball team came out flat in the first half of Monday’s sectional semifinal against Lancaster, holding an 18-15 lead. However, once the cobwebs were shaken, the Jackets went on an 18-2 run in the second half to pull away from the pesky Golden Gales, earning a 53-30 victory and advancing to Thursday’s sectional final.
