MOUNT VERNON — Plans are moving forward toward demolition of the former Mazza’s Restaurant at 218 W. High St. A pre-construction meeting for the demolition project took place Thursday morning at the Knox County Commissioners’ office. Attending were Mount Vernon City Engineer Cameron Keaton, Community Development Consultants representative Amy Schocken, building owner Joel Mazza and representatives of Raze International Inc. of Shadyside, contractors for the project.

Schocken informed Tom Brown, representing Raze International, that an asbestos abatement is the first step in the process and that the Environmental Protection Agency needs to be notified of the project 10 days in advance. She also requested they provide a proposed work schedule prior to beginning any work.
