The first child was born in the town of Mt. Vernon-- Joseph Knox Butler, the son of Benjamin Butler, a town founder, and Leah Rogers Butler.
His wife was Mary Polly Biggs.
Joseph and Mary Butler settled in New Castle, 18 miles east of Mount Vernon.
They had five sons-- James, John, Joseph, Isaac, Thomas and Benjamin.
He lived until age 65 and is buried at Newcastle Cemetery in Newcastle, Coshocton County.
