Mount Vernon and Lexington soccer battle ends in 1-1 draw

The Mount Vernon Boys Yellow Jackets Soccer team faced off against, Lexington, resulting in a 1-1 draw.

"I was so proud of our team effort tonight,” Yellowjackets Head Coach Scott Dapprich told Mount Vernon News. 

“They competed and won many 1 v1 battles on 50/50 balls. They put in a great team effort. We were up 1-0 with a PK. They played a perfect set piece ball into the box and scored on a Header. Great Game to be apart of. Our players should remember this game for a long time."

The first half was marked by intense defensive play from both sides, with the scoreboard remaining empty at halftime. Mount Vernon’s Stacy broke the deadlock with a goal in the second half. However, Lexington wasn’t about to concede defeat easily. 

They launched a fierce offensive assault, and it was Husty who managed to find the back of the net, equalizing the score. The game showcased a total of 10 shots on goal for each side. The corner kicks favored Lexington 6-3, highlighting their efforts to break through Mount Vernon’s defense.

McCallen, Mount Vernon’s goalkeeper, made crucial saves throughout the match, totaling five saves by the end.

Lexington’s goalkeeper, Steward, put up an impressive performance with four saves of his own. Mount Vernon’s record moves to 2-2-1, with a league record of 1-2-1, while Lexington maintains an undefeated streak with a record of 6-0-1 and a league record of 3-0-1.
