Ohio was ranked 37th in the just released America’s Health Rankings 2022 Annual Report.
The United Health Foundation recently partnered with America's Health Rankings to release the America’s Health Rankings 2022 Annual Report, which highlights improvements, challenges and disparities in the health and well-being of Americans across all 50 states.
Ohio ranked 37th in the report with its biggest challenge being high prevalence of frequent mental distress, multiple chronic conditions and cigarette smoking among the population. Ohio's strengths include a high supply of mental health providers and a low percentage of households experiencing severe housing problems. Ohio also has a low occupational fatality rank per 100,000 workers, with the state ranking 10th in the country.
Nationally, drug deaths increased by 30% in just one year, between 2019 and 2020. There were more than 91,000 confirmed drug overdose deaths in the United States in 2020 and, of those, roughly 69,000 involved an opioid.
The national supply of mental health providers increased by 7% and primary care providers increased by 5% between 2021 and 2022.
High-speed internet access increased by 3% nationally between 2019 and 2021, representing nearly 3 million people. Access increased among nearly all racial/ethnic groups, which narrowed the racial gap, mostly notably 11% among American Indian/Alaska Native households.
