In a battle of unbeaten-in-conference KMAC foes on Jan. 4, the host Centerburg Trojans (9-1, 6-0 KMAC) recovered from an ice cold first half to hand East Knox (7-3, 5-1 KMAC) their first conference loss, 47-35.

East Knox stays undefeated, outlasts Danville, 52- 47. The East Knox Bulldogs started slowly, then ramped up their offense higher each quarter to remain unbeaten and improve their record to 6-0, 5-0 in KMAC play, with a hard-fought 52-47 win over host Danville. The Tuesday night loss dropped the Blue Devils to 2-6 and 1-5 in KMAC.

Chafin deadly at the line in Mount Gilead’s overtime win over Northmor, 79-70. Elijah Chafin calmly hit 15-of-17 at the line and scored 10 points on overtime, as Mount Gilead (3-3, 2-2 KMAC) came from behind to take down the Northmor Golden Knights (3-3, 2-2 KMAC), 79-70, Tuesday night.

The yo​uth movement for the Centerburg girls basketball team is under way. After finishing last season 6-16, coach Bo Glenn’s squad is returning just one senior and one junior, meaning that the Trojans' underclasswomen are going to have to step up in a big way this season.

The Highland Scots traveled to Pleasant High School on Dec. 4, and in a tough and close game, that was decided by free throw performance, the Scots went home with a 62-57 loss in what was the first win of the season for Pleasant. Mount Vernon wins 62-61 thriller over Mansfield. A tight first half moved into a come-from-behind situation in the second half for Mount Vernon (2-2, 1-0 OCC), as they beat Mansfield (2-2 1-1 OCC) in a thriller, 62-61.

Weckesser’s 26 outdone by Bentley’s 29 in Northmor’s comeback win over Danville. Danville’s Walker Weckesser scored 26 points, and the Blue Devils took a seven-point lead into the fourth quarter, but a 29-point night by Grant Bentley and a 22-point fourth-quarter onslaught by The Golden Nights took home a come-from-behind one-point victory December 3.

Expectations are sky high this season for the Centerburg Boys Varsity basketball team. After last year’s 16-4 record and a second consecutive conference championship, the Trojans have their eyes set on a three-peat.

Perhaps lost in the fact that Centerburg 10-9 is on the year and 6-6 in KMAC play, and they lost a pair of volleyball matches, was monster play by several of their players.

It was a season of triumph and disappointment.

At the Knox Morrow Athletic Conference (KMAC) boys golf tournament in Waldo, Centerburg breezed past five competitors with an overall total of 315, carried by top scorers Dalton Hall (tied for second in the Top 10 at 76) and Bennett Hill (tied for second in the Top 10 at 76).

With the first day of school right around the corner, athletes at Centerburg High School are getting ready to begin fall sports.
