MOUNT VERNON — Robert E. Doering, 73, of Wooster Road, Mount Vernon, passed away Thursday, April 17, 2014, at the Knox Community Hospital.

He was born April 2, 1941, in Columbus, Ohio, to the late Robert and Jesse (Allen) Doering. Robert was employed as a district manager for Medibag Company Inc. He was a member of the Mount Vernon City Seventh Day Adventist Church. Robert was known for his wonderful sense of humor. He enjoyed gardening and loved the time he spent with his family. Robert was a veteran serving in the U.S. Navy from 1959-1963.

He is survived by his wife, of over 52 years, Aneita (Kurtz) Doering; his son, David Doering of Howard; his daughter, Beth (David) Keen of Howard; two grandchildren, Zachariah and Alexander Keen; and four sisters, Betty (Lee) Shaffer of Columbus, Peg (Shisler) of California, Becky Katon of Virginia and Shirley (Ken) Pike of Howard.

Friends may call Saturday, April 26, from 1-2 p.m., at the Mount Vernon City Seventh Day Adventist Church, 425 S. Edgewood Dr., Mount Vernon, where a service, with military honors provided by the Knox County Joint Veteran’s Council, will follow beginning at 2 p.m.
