MOUNT VERNON — Steven D. Farren, 57, of Mount Vernon, passed away at his residence. He was born in Mount Vernon on May 30, 1956, to the late Merle and Gladys (Houbler) Farren.

Steven was a retired sheriff’s deputy for Knox County. He also volunteered his time at the Gay Street United Methodist Church in the Soup Kitchen, and was a past member of the First Christian Church. He was a member of the AmVets, Moose Lodge and Kiwanis here in Mount Vernon. Steven was also very proud of his service in the Air Force from which he was honorably discharged.

He is survived by his daughter, Rachael Farren; a son, Eddie (Christine) Farren; grandchildren, David and Ariel; and two cousins, Mary Jane (Dan) Clark and Ginny (Phil) Crider.

Graveside services with military honors by the Knox County Joint Veterans Council will be Thursday, at 11 a.m., at Mound View Cemetery in Mount Vernon.
