GLENMONT — Anna M. Powell, 65, of Glenmont, died Sunday morning, April 6, 2014, in Wooster Community Hospital, following a two month illness. Anna was born Sept. 14, 1948, in Shelby, and was the daughter of Charles A. and LaWanna Christine (Brown) Laser. Anna was a 1966 graduate of Danville High School and a 1970 graduate of Ashland College. She had lived in the Glenmont-Mohican area most of her life and was a member of the Jefferson Grange. She was encouraged by her late husband, Greg Hill, to be a teacher and began her career in 1971 at the Perrysville Elementary School teaching fourth grade. After the death of her husband in 1977, she took a break from her career to concentrate on being a mother and worked as a substitute teacher. She returned to full-time teaching in 1992 as a reading teacher and ultimately finished her career with first grade at McMullen Elementary School in Loudonville, retiring in 2013. Anna loved teaching and raising her grandchildren. She enjoyed working in her herb garden, creating stained glass, and was an avid reader.

She is survived by her companion of many years, Jim Gray; her son, Graham T. Hill of Martinsburg; her mother, LaWanna Laser of Glenmont; five grandchildren, Keira, Kourtney P., Gregg T., Gunnar L. and Kandra Hill; a brother, Samuel (Linda) Laser of Norwalk; and a sister, Molly Lou Metcalf of Danville. She was preceded in death by her husband, Greg Hill; and her father, Charles Laser.
