FREDERICKTOWN — Betty M. (Fletcher-Ruhl) Shaffer, 85, of Lucerne Road, Fredericktown, passed away Tuesday, April 1, 2014, at the Ohio Eastern Star Home in Mount Vernon. She was born Dec. 27, 1928, in Fredericktown, Ohio, to the late Ralph and Thelma (Reed) Fletcher. After retiring from Essex Wire in Lexington, Ohio, Betty became a sales agent for Avon. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Betty enjoyed playing Bingo with her friends or just spending the afternoon with her grandchildren.
She is survived by her children, Donald (Linda) Shaffer of Bellville, Donna (Raymond) Besst of Fredericktown and Beverly (Rodney) Randall of Fredericktown; four grandchildren, Roger Besst, Lori (Bill) Polkinghorn, Teresa (Matt) Copeland and Clinton Randall; two great-grandchildren, Madeline Polkinghorn and Liam Polkinghorn; two brothers, Willard (Goldie) Ruhl Jr. of Fredericktown, and James Carroll (Bev) Ruhl of Fredericktown; a sister; Darlene Brown of Kalamazoo, Mich.; four half-sisters; and her feline companion; Angel.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Maurice “Tuffy” Shaffer; two brothers, Clarence Fletcher and Robert Ruhl; a sister; Mary Lou Moran; and her stepfather, Willard Ruhl Sr.
Friends may call Friday, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the Snyder Funeral Home in Fredericktown where a service will begin at 2 p.m. Evangelist Troy Northrop will be officiating. Burial will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery in Chesterville, Ohio.
