NEWARK — A funeral service celebrating the life of Lyn (Farinacci) Cortez, 52, of Newark, will be held Thursday, at 10:30 a.m., at the Newark Chapel of The Henderson-Van Atta-Stickle Funeral and Cremation Service. Burial will follow at Mound View Cemetery in Mount Vernon.

Lyn passed away Friday, March 14, 2014, in Newark, at her residence. She was born Jan. 9, 1962, in Chardon, Ohio.

Lyn was an alumnus of Miami University of Ohio, Otterbein University, and Ashland University. Lyn was an elementary school teacher at Dan Emmett Elementary in Mount Vernon for the last 12 years and was passionate about making a difference in the lives of her students. Lyn enjoyed many different past-times including traveling, exercising, reading, spending time with her children and walking her dog.

She is survived by her three children, Caitlyn Cortez and fiancé, Brett Blacet of Portsmouth, and Christina Cortez and Annemarie Haefs both of Newark; as well as her mother and stepfather, Georgiann Farinacci Alexander and Dr. Robert Alexander both of Chardon. Lyn is also survived by her three siblings, Don (Donna) Farinacci of Valley City, Rex Farinacci of Mentor, and Ann (Tim) Litts of Chardon.

She was preceded in death by her father, Don Farinacci Jr.

Friends may call Wednesday, from 4-7 p.m., at the funeral home, 59 North Fifth St., Newark.
