MOUNT VERNON — Muria Emma Spearman, 92, of Mount Vernon, passed away Monday morning, March 10, 2014, at the Emeritus at HillenVale in Mount Vernon. She was born Aug. 17, 1921, in Mount Vernon, daughter of the late John and Mary Elizabeth (Lake) Hiles.

Muria was a member the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Mount Vernon. She worked for the Knox County Fair Board for over 30 years. Muria enjoyed working in her flowers beds, raising a garden, sewing, and especially spending time with her family.

Muria is survived by her daughter, Linda (Gordon) Lahmon of Mount Vernon; grandchildren, Tammy (Bill) Coakley of Howard and Scott (Michelle) Lahmon of Howard; great-grandsons, Braxton and Zachary Lahmon; sister, Fern (Raymond) Boeshart of Florida; a special sister-in-law, Shirley Hughes of Howard; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Muria is preceded in death by her husband, Arthur “Art” L. Spearman in 2003; brothers, Harold, Gerald, Johnny, Richard and Charles Hiles; and sisters, Mary Ellen Kleinschmidt and Mable Ralston.

The family will receive friends Thursday, from 5-8 p.m., at the Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home, 201 Newark Road, Mount Vernon, where a funeral service will be held Friday, at 11 a.m., with Rev. Rick VanHorn officiating. Burial will follow in Mound View Cemetery.
