MOUNT VERNON — Robert E. “Bob” Browne, 82, of Mount Vernon, died Wednesday, March 5, 2014, at the Laurels of Mount Vernon where he had been a resident for the past several years.

Bob was born July 1, 1931, in Mount Vernon, to Clarence and Mabel (Cochran) Browne, and had spent his lifetime in Mount Vernon. He was a 1949 graduate of Mount Vernon High School where he was piano accompanist for the choir. Bob was an accomplished pianist and enjoyed operas. He attended many operas in Cleveland and New York City. Bob had a large collection of operatic records as well as a large collection of animal figurines.

Bob was a life member and faithfully attended Saint Paul’s Episcopal Church in Mount Vernon. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force serving four years from 1951 to 1955 when he was honorably discharged. Bob retired from the State of Ohio, Bureau of Employment Services in Mount Vernon in 1988 after more than 30 years employment.

Bob had no brothers or sisters and is survived by his first cousin, Robert Lantz of Mount Vernon; several second cousins; and his close friends, Marilyn and Eugene Beckholt, and Kenneth and Alice Beckholt.

There will be no calling hours. Graveside funeral services will be Monday, at 1 p.m., at Mound View Cemetery, with Rev. Helen Svoboda-Barber officiating.
