MOUNT VERNON — Margaret “Ruth” Meier, 88, of Mount Vernon, passed away peacefully March 4, 2014, at Knox Community Hospital, with her family by her side.

She was born April 28, 1925, in Kingston, Tenn., to the late Samuel A. and Bertha M. (Ward) Wright.

Ruth was a longtime member of the Fredericktown Seventh-Day Adventist Church. She was retired from the Mount Vernon Academy, where she had worked for 30 years as a cafeteria supervisor and cook.

Ruth is survived by two sons, John Meier of Mount Vernon and Samuel (Linda) Meier of Portland, Ore.; two daughters, Sandra Meier of Mount Vernon and Mary (Max) Bradley of Candler, N.C.; a brother, Alfred Wright of Georgia; along with numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Roy Meier; and three sisters, Mary E. Chadwell, Clara M. Cook and Nancy E. Coffey.

A memorial service is being planned for a later date and will be announced. The Dilley-Lasater Funeral Homes are handling the arrangements for the Meier family.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Palliative Care Dept. at Knox Community Hospital in Ruth’s memory.
