MOUNT VERNON — Bernard R. Mortimer, 80, of Mount Vernon, passed away Thursday morning, Feb. 27, 2014, at the Laurels of Mount Vernon. He was born March 22, 1933, in Frazeysburg, son of the late George Edgar and Alice Marie (Epler) Mortimer Sr.
Bernard proudly served his country in the Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He was a retired owner/operator truck driver.
Bernard is survived by his son, Scott (Renee) Mortimer of Carroll; daughter, Kathy (Ronald) Houck of Marengo; stepson, James Litt of Mount Vernon; grandchildren, Kaitlind (Josh) Harris and Dirk Houck, and Elle Marie Mortimer; stepgrandchildren, Jesse and Cassie Litt; great-grandchildren, Riley Houck and Gavin Harris; brothers, Raymond (Karen) Mortimer of Fredericktown and Arthur Mortimer of Portland, Ore.; sister, Janet Sue (Eugene) Kreinbrink of Lexington; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Bernard was preceded in death by his wife, Pearl (Conkle) Mortimer; brother, George Mortimer Jr.; and sister, Dorothy Kershner.
A graveside service will be held Saturday, at 10:30 a.m., in Mound View Cemetery, with Military Honors provided by the Knox County Joint Veterans Council.
