MOUNT VERNON — Harriet Marie Hamilton, 79, passed away Thursday, Jan. 30, 2014, surrounded by her loving family. She was born May 6, 1934, to the late Samuel and Katherine (Fitz) Blubaugh.

On Aug. 21, 1951, Harriet was united in marriage to John R. “Jack” Hamilton. She retired from driving school bus for the Mount Vernon City Schools in 1993 after 28 1/2 years of service.

Harriett enjoyed spending summers with her family at Pleasant Hill Lake, playing cards with her friends and after retirement, traveling the country with her husband. If those travels took them near a casino, you could always find her at a blackjack table! She was a warm and generous person who always had a smile on her face, a song in her heart and a fun loving spirit which made her a friend to all she knew. She will be remembered as a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Harriet is survived by her devoted husband of 62 years, Jack Hamilton; her children, Deborah (Carl Jones III) Hamilton, Doug (Donna) Hamilton, Ron Hamilton, Greg (Joann) Hamilton and Mike Hamilton; her grandchildren, Nicholas Hamilton, Tyler Hamilton, Kassie (Bryan) Hoeflich, Ashlee Wheeler, Makenzie Hamilton, Jason Hamilton and Allison (Shaun) Lowry; and great-grandchildren, Madison Hoeflich, Mason Hoeflich, Dakota Wheeler, Bailee Wheeler, Devyn Wheeler, Caden Tier and Ryatt Lowry.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Jane Harris; and brothers, Don, Dick, Bob and Jerry Blubaugh.

The family would like to offer special thanks to the staff of Autumn Health Care for their warm and gentle care of Harriet during her illness.

A Mass celebrating the life of Harriet Hamilton will be held at St. Vincent dePaul Catholic Church on Wednesday, at 11 a.m., with Rev. Father Mark J. Hammond officiating.
