NEWARK — Dick L. Marsh, 71, passed away Thursday, Jan. 23, 2014, at Licking Memorial Hospital. He was born June 12, 1942, in Mount Vernon, to the late Rosetta (Carr) Layton and Richard Marsh.
Dick graduated with the Class of l961 from Newark High School and received his business degree from Franklin University. Dick proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He retired after 30 years of employment with Rockwell and worked as a substitute school teacher for ten years. He was a member of Heisey Collectors of America, Buckeye Heisey Study Club, Antique Automobile Club of America (AACA), Ohio Region of AACA, Central Chapter of AACA, Moose Lodge of Newark and Katzenjammer Kids History group. Dick served as an officer in many of the organizations he participated in. He enjoyed judging the “classic classes” at National Antique Automobile Club of America Meets, antiquing, traveling and family gatherings.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Virginia (Thorp) Marsh; sister, Linda Grove of Heath; stepsister, Jerrie Campbell; brother-in-law, Don (Mary Ann) Thorp of Hebron; sisters-in-law, Kathleen Thorp of Newark and Sarah Jane (Rod) Lindsey of Coshocton; aunt, Donna Courson of Dunedin, Fla.; nieces and nephews, Steve (Jamie) Grove of Lancaster, Cheri Griffith of New Lexington, Jerry Thorp of Hebron, Tara (Tim) McMillen of Hebron, Kira (Curt) Weaver of Newark, Courtney (Jeremy) Fleming of Granville, Emily Lindsey of Newark and Mark (Sarah) Lindsey of Coshocton; great nieces and nephews, Kindl Grove, Alexander Griffith, Cole McMillen, Craig McMillen, Braden Fleming, Julian Fleming, Lashelle Thorp, Blaydan Thorp, Brant Lindsey, Avery Lindsey, Lucas Weaver and Lex Weaver.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepmother, Bette Marsh; and stepbrother, Dave Hollifield.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Heisey Museum Endowment Fund, 169 West Church Street, Newark, Ohio 43055.
Friends may call Sunday from 2 to 6 p.m. at the Newark Chapel of Henderson-Van Atta-Stickle Funeral and Cremation Service, 59 North Fifth Street, Newark. A graveside service will take place at Licking Baptist Cemetery, on Monday, at 10:45 a.m., with Pastor Tom Myers officiating. The Licking County Veterans Alliance will provide military honors.
