MOUNT VERNON — Thelma J. Williams, 80, of Mount Vernon, passed away Monday, Jan. 20, 2014, at Knox Community Hospital following a brief illness.

She was born Jan. 23, 1933, in Mount Vernon, and was the daughter of the late Loren and Virginia V. (Coffman) Williams.

Thelma graduated from Gambier High School in 1951 and was the valedictorian of her class. She then furthered her education at Mount Vernon Business College. Thelma had worked for Shalamar Industries and the Newark Air Force Station for many years.

She is survived by her brother, Carl R. (Bonita) Williams of Howard; seven nieces and nephews; and two close friends, Pam and Carol.

Thelma was preceded in death by her brothers, Raymond F. and Loren Williams Jr.

In keeping with Thelma’s wishes, their will be no calling hours. Private graveside funeral services will be held today at Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens. The Dilley-Lasater Funeral Homes are handling the funeral services for the Williams family.
